Steakholder Foods Makes its Cultivated Meat More Affordable

Steakholder Foods, an Israeli food tech company, has reduced the cost of its in-house growth media for bovine cell cultivation by over 75% from prices two years ago. The high cost of growth media has always challenged the cultivated meat sector as companies work to scale up production. This groundbreaking achievement by Steakholder Foods could modernize the industry by making it more affordable to mass-produce products. Additionally, the company guarantees that the new innovation will not deteriorate the quality of the cultivated meat products, as yields remain consistently high.

"Our ability to achieve a significant cost reduction in growth media is a testament to the dedication and innovation of our biology team. It propels us toward our goal of making cultivated meat a viable, sustainable, and cost-effective solution for the future." - Dan Kozlovski, CTO at Steakholder Foods.

This is not the first innovation introduced by the startup. This year, Steakholder Foods launched the world’s first 3D-oriented cultivated fish filet, raised $6.5 million in funds, and secured a partnership with CULT Food Science-backed Umami Meats. These achievements support the company's future ambitions to commercialize in the Asian market, specifically in Singapore where cultivated meat has regulatory approval.
