World’s Largest Meat Producer Breaks Ground on Cultivated Meat R&D Center

JBS, the world’s largest meat producer has begun construction on the Biotech Innovation Center, a $62 million research and development facility for cultivated meat. The R&D center is located in Brazil and is expected to open in 2024.

In the same year, JBS will also open the world’s largest cultivated beef factory through its subsidiary, BioTech Foods. The $41 million facility in Spain will be able to produce more than 1,000 metric tons of cultivated beef annually, with the capacity to grow.

JBS is one of several major meat retailers that have made large investments in cultivated meat including Cargill, Tyson Foods, and Granja Tres Arroyos.
