The evolution of food production has been driven by technological innovation, including developments such as fermentation and farming. Cultivated meat represents another advancement in this progression. In August 2025, Canberra participated in this development.
The Debut of Forged Quail

At Made & Grown, guests were among the very first in Australia to taste a cultivated meat product, freshly approved for sale during the summer. On the menu? A selection of canapés featuring Forged cultured quail, created in Sydney through a 79-day process that builds meat cell by cell using familiar, kitchen-quality ingredients from pioneering food company Vow.
Prepared by Kitchen Witchery, these canapés were served during networking drinks at the end of the event. Attendees enjoyed a new food experience that blended science, sustainability, and flavor, offering a unique combination of rich umami and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness.
But it wasn’t just about tasting the future of food. Attendees also heard directly from Vow’s founder and CEO, George Peppou, during the panel discussion titled “Driving Down Costs Through Technical Innovation.”
What Does This Mean for The Industry?

This event was more than a tasting; it marked yet another shift from just imagining cultivated meat to actually trying it.
