Tobacco Offers Solution to Cultivated Meat Bottleneck

Israeli company BioBetter, Ltd. is repurposing Nicotiana tobacum plant (tobacco) from local growers to create growth factors needed for cultivated meat. This marks a landmark botanical breakthrough that could significantly reduce the cost of cultivated meat and allow for a rapid ramp-up to large-scale production, which are some of the major bottlenecks the industry faces. BioBetter turned tobacco plants into bioreactors that are self-sustaining, biodegradable, and use renewable energy making them a green, animal-free solution for growth factors.
