California-based VitroLabs Inc. has raised $46M in a Series A funding round to build and scale the world’s first pilot production of cultivated leather. Investors include Agronomics, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kering which owns luxury brands including Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Yves Saint Laurent. Cultivated leather is expected to have a drastically lower environmental impact compared to conventional leather. The 45,000 square foot facility is expected to be operational in 2023.
